Aim/Gtalk: thekeylessgate (for email) and (ofnumberlessdreams@gmail.com) for gtalk (although I'm not on either of these too often)
RP Experience: I've been RPing in private PSLs with friends since seventh grade, but I only broke into the realm of journal-based RP in 2009. Since then, I've been in several original character games, all on Insanejournal. These games include Axis City (an OC superpower game that only lasted about two months after I joined) and Bespelled (an OC high school game I was in for approximately five months). I also helped mod the OC game Genome Project (~mitochondrion) for over a year, but left for personal reasons. Since then, I've mostly been modding my own games, including City of Notions (~notionsmod, an OC superpower crime game that lasted for almost eight months before intraplayer drama killed it) and Revolutions (another OC superpower game, set in high school this time, lasted about seven months before we closed due to busy-ness and player disinterest). I currently mod a small OC superpower/psychological GPSL, Desperation (~desperationmods), that's been active for two months. I've also dabbled in fandom PSLs and GPSLs, but truthfully I don't have very much panfandom experience beyond a few short weeks in a panfandom game (where I played Teresa).
New muns, how did you hear about us? Amanda very graciously asked me to join!

Character's Age: 38
Canon Type: TV Show

PB: Robin Tunney
Requested Tag: Teresa Lisbon
Personality:
Strengths:
First and foremost, Teresa is brave. Although she's practical and can be cautious, she won't hesitate to put herself in harm's way if someone is in trouble. She is also both clever and resourceful: as a detective, Teresa is good at seeing details that others miss, discerning people's motivations, and fitting pieces together to form a coherent whole. Unlike many hardened cops before her, Teresa is also genuinely empathetic. She's the one you send in to comfort the grieving widow or take care of the now-orphaned kids. She's excellent at asking people for information without offending them, and she's extremely levelheaded in crisis situations.
Weaknesses:
Although she deals with people all the time, Teresa is actually quite shy. She has trouble relating to people outside of the context of work, and can become either flustered or distant when people ask her personal questions. Much of this trait springs from her being a workaholic: there is literally no place Teresa would rather be than her office, which is part of why questions about her personal life bother her -- outside of work, she doesn't really have one. Taken together, these major weaknesses make it extraordinarily difficult for her to form and maintain long-term personal relationships, which explains why her closest friends are her coworkers. She is also a major control freak: although she's adaptable, Teresa hates it when she doesn't have a plan, which why she's almost always furious at Jane. She tells herself she's getting better at dealing with chaos, but in her heart, she's always preferred order. That's one of the main reasons she became a cop in the first place. The other major reason for this stems from her idealistic streak. Teresa has absolute faith in the justice system, and in order to sleep at night, she needs to believe that what she does all day makes a difference, which is why she clings so fiercely to the idea of justice.
Likes: Black coffee, horses, 90s pop (especially the Spice Girls), fried chicken, dark chocolate, rules, tequila, guns, men with confidence
Dislikes: fish, peanut butter, hugs, accepting others’ help, people invading her personal space, inappropriateness, alcoholics, misogyny
History:
Teresa Lisbon’s history is not a particularly happy one. Her childhood was fairly normal until, when she was twelve, her mother was killed by a drunk driver. Devastated, her father quickly became an alcoholic and left Teresa to raise her three younger brothers. For the most part, she protected her family, making meals, keeping order, and navigating her father's drunken rages. Beatings were not uncommon, and for most of her life she was too small to stop them. Her father committed suicide when she was in her late teens. She remains in contact with some of her brothers, especially Tommy, the baby of the family, but she doesn't interact with them much.
After college, Teresa went on to become a detective for the San Francisco Police Department. She was a quick study and a brave cop, so she was promoted quickly. Early in her career, she and her then-superior officer Sam Bosco eventually cracked the high-profile William McTier case. After McTier, an elusive serial child rapist, was captured, Teresa received a great deal of public attention, earning the nickname “Saint Teresa.” Eventually, she was offered a job at the California Bureau of Investigation, where she currently works.
It is unclear when, exactly, Patrick Jane, a mentalist and a retired con man/"psychic" joined Teresa’s team as a consultant, but she has been solving cases with him for approximately seven years. Jane originally joined Teresa’s team in order to catch Red John, a powerful and incredibly dangerous serial murderer who murdered Jane's wife and child after watching a television broadcast in which Jane publicly insulted him. The main source of tension in Teresa and Jane’s working relationship springs from Jane's overpowering obsession to catch and kill Red John. Teresa is determined to bring Red John to justice, but she is also painfully aware of the debilitating nature of Jane's obsession, and often tries to convince him to move on (to no avail, of course). Despite her efforts, remains a broken man driven by revenge. He still wears his wedding ring and, despite his being a tremendous flirt, he is clearly still not over the loss of his wife.
Jane regularly gets Teresa into trouble (of both a physically dangerous and politically dangerous nature), and for the past few years, her job has consisted less of solving cases than cleaning up Jane's messes. His general childishness and lack of professionalism force Teresa into a maddening state of near-constant damage control, but she puts up with it because, as she says, "he closes cases." Of course, her relationship with Jane, both in and out of the office, is much more complex than it first appears. Each has saved the other's life several times, and, although Teresa would never admit it, she'd never put up with Jane's crap if she weren't a little in love with him.
That's why it hurt her so much when, after Red John sent Jane a taunting message through a child on the day of his wife's death, Jane spun out of control and manipulated their boss into firing him. Although Teresa has made many attempts at contacting Jane in the months following his apparent breakdown, she's never received a response. It's been extraordinarily hard to pick up the pieces since Jane left, but she's steeled herself and kept on going.
Powers/Abilities/Disabilities: N/A, Teresa is just a human cop. Although she's well trained (physically fit, trained in a few forms of martial arts and with several types of firearms) she's not capable of anything superhuman. (Unless her tolerance for Sherlock-style, mentalist a-holes counts?)
Why do you want to play this character? Teresa was one of my very first fandom characters, and she remains one of my favorite characters to play to this day. I love strong women, and I've always liked Teresa because she manages to be unquestionably badass, but also very feminine.
Plots: I love all kinds of RP plots, but plots with interpersonal tension (sexual or otherwise) are my very favorite. I love pairing up villainous types (or just plain old assholes) with virtuous ones, and I especially love what happens when you throw someone who loves order into pit full of chaos. My favorite lines are the slow-build, character focused kind, ideally when the characters have an important problem to solve and are coming at it from two totally different angles.
Personal Inventory: Her gun, clothes, CBI credentials, and (especially) a small gold cross necklace that she inherited from her mother.
Sample Post: This isn't a completed thread, but it should give you a sense of the way Teresa operates: Here
